Colchester, Rutland, Brattleboro to Compete for Final Spot

S.D. Ireland came out of Colchester High School’s Monday schedule as the only undefeated team left, and earned a spot in the championship game.

The Hinesburg squad took down the North Legion’s top-seeded Colchester Cannons 3-1 to open the day in what was a make-up game from Sunday.

Colchester was bumped down to a loser’s bracket contest against Essex Post 91 in a game that immediately followed, but the Cannons stayed alive and eliminated Post 91 with a 2-1 decision.

S.D. Ireland took the field one more time in the winner’s bracket final against fellow 2-0 team Brattleboro Post 5. SDI rallied behind six runs and a seven-inning effort from Ian Parent on the mound to get the 6-1 win and advance to the championship game on Wednesday.

All three winning pitchers in the games at CHS tossed complete games in their respective victories.

Rutland Post 31 and Lakes Region squared off in a contest moved to Champlain Valley Union, and Rutland eliminated Lakes Region 7-6 in an extra-inning affair.

Post 31 opens the Tuesday schedule at Colchester High School when it takes on the host Cannons at 10 a.m. The winner of that game will face Brattleboro at 1 p.m. for a date with SDI in the finals.
